Modderfontein Silent Book Club launches Youth Month book drive
The club is collecting books and educational toys for Edenvale charities, with donations to be handed over in mid-June ahead of Youth Day.
Modderfontein Silent Book Club has initiated a community reading and literacy project.
The book club has appealed to the community for donations of books and educational toys for charities in Edenvale as part of its Youth Month Book Drive.
It plans to hand over the donations to the charities during the second week of June ahead of Youth Day celebrations.
Hosting its inaugural event on March 8, the club hosted it at Create Taroko.

Founder Anita Arendsen explained that Modderfontein and the greater area is brimming with potential.
She said with the surrounding communities’ involvement, the chapter could bring books and the joy of reading to more children from little ones (3-8 year olds), discovering their first picture-book stories, to young adults (12-17 year olds) who discover new reading adventures.
“We’ve been going for close to three months now. As part of our quest to share a love of reading, creativity and literature, we also set up an honesty library at Create Taroko,” said Anita.
The library is open to everyone six days a week, and anyone can bring books and take books as often as they like (operating hours can be found on Create Taroko’s website).
