Ekurhuleni volunteers pack trauma bags to comfort children in emergencies

Komatsu, CGU and KidsCare came together on Mandela Day to bring comfort to young trauma victims—one teddy bear at a time.

Komatsu joined forces with The Child Guardian Unit (CGU) and KidsCare at BRLTC to give their 67 minutes in honour of Mandela Day.

The Komatsu team donated and packed 50 trauma bags filled with comforting items such as teddy bears, blankets, bubbles, colouring books, pencils, finger puppets, stress balls, snacks and treats.

KidsCare launched the trauma bag initiative to provide emotional support to children who have experienced traumatic events, including car accidents.

They will be given to paramedics and first responders to have on hand when they encounter children at emergency scenes.

Ten of these bags were handed over to Chris Morris from GPG Emergency Services,” said CGU’s Delani Hollhumer.

“The CGU and KidsCare thank Komatsu South Africa for their generous support, and BRLTC for hosting the event.

We encourage the community to get involved in these and other initiatives by engaging with us on our social media platforms,” Hollhumer added.
