Bedfordview Athletics cancels race, prioritises Biogen 21km
The Jeppe Athletics Spring Day Walk drew over 400 residents, raising funds for Better Bedfordview’s cleanup and community improvement projects.
More than 400 community-spirited walkers and many four-legged friends took to the streets for the second annual Spring Day Walk, hosted by Jeppe Athletics in aid of the community clean-up NPO Better Bedfordview.
Held on a sunny morning on August 31, the 5km walk brought together people of all ages in support of a cleaner, greener, more beautiful Bedfordview.
“We were delighted with the support, which was almost double the number of entries received for last year’s event,” said Marina Constas, the chairperson of the NPO.

“It was heartening to see so many people come together to enjoy a morning out with our community, while at the same time, helping to raise funds for Better Bedfordview’s essential clean-ups and community improvement initiatives.
“In addition to helping us to keep cleaning, restoring and maintaining roads, pavements, parks and public spaces, fundraisers like this help Better Bedfordview to create jobs in our clean-up team.”
Constas said that Better Bedfordview employs 25 previously unemployed people, who sweep streets, tidy, pick up litter, weed, cut grass, paint, pave, plant and fix potholes.
Better Bedfordview has made the streets safer for all road users by fixing more than 900 potholes to date, painting road markings, speed bumps and kerbs, and repairing paving.

She thanked everyone involved in this year’s Spring Day Walk, “We are grateful to Jeppe Athletics for again organising the walk and their ongoing support of Better Bedfordview.
“Thanks, too, to everyone who participated, donated, volunteered or helped out in any way. This is what community is all about.”
Jeppe Athletics walking captain Amanda Braun said, “I am so happy to have seen such a wonderful turnout for a sport I love, enjoy and know is good for everyone, physically and mentally. It was a bonus to walk in aid of Better Bedfordview, which works tirelessly to improve our suburb and the streets we walk on.”

She invited anyone interested in finding out more about Jeppe Athletics’ walking and running clubs to call her on 084 240 1810.
Constas urged anyone who didn’t enter this year’s Spring Day Walk to mark their calendars for 2026.
“This is a not-to-be-missed event for everyone.”
