City of Ekurhuleni hosts first Africa Water and Sanitation Dialogue

The City of Ekurhuleni welcomed water and sanitation experts from across Africa to discuss solutions and share best practices at the inaugural Africa Water and Sanitation Dialogue at Emperors Palace.

The City of Ekurhuleni hosted the first Africa Water and Sanitation Dialogue at Emperors Palace in Kempton Park this week.

The three-day event brought together South African municipalities and international experts to discuss key challenges and innovative solutions in the water and sanitation sector.

Member of the Mayoral Committee for Water and Sanitation, Councillor Thembi Msane, welcomed delegates and emphasised the value of such engagements in enhancing the city’s capacity to deliver quality services to residents.

“The City of Ekurhuleni is committed to providing world-class water and sanitation services,” Msane said.

“We have reduced our non-revenue water to 29%, the lowest in Gauteng Province, and are working towards our target of 25%.

“We have also maintained a Blue Drop water status, demonstrating our water quality is of international standard.”

Msane highlighted initiatives such as the meter replacement programme, which reduces water losses, improves efficiency, and delivers greater volumes of water to the community.

The dialogue provides a platform for delegates to share practical experiences, innovative solutions, and policy ideas that aim to advance universal access to reliable and sustainable water and sanitation services.

The City of Ekurhuleni reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with stakeholders to ensure that all residents benefit from sustainable water and sanitation systems.
