Gauteng cracks down on unsafe vehicles and unlicensed drivers
A Gauteng road safety operation led to the removal of 40 unsafe vehicles, more than 1 100 AARTO infringement notices and the arrest of three suspects for various offences.
orty unsafe vehicles have been removed from Gauteng roads during high-impact enforcement operations conducted by the Gauteng Transport Inspectorate as part of the province’s #OperationRemoveSkorokoro campaign.
The operations, conducted between July 6 and 12 in Johannesburg, Tshwane and Ekurhuleni, resulted in 1 125 AARTO infringement notices being issued. Inspectors also discontinued 40 unroadworthy vehicles from operating on public roads, 35 of which were minibus taxis.

Inspectors found 83 minibus taxis operating without valid licence discs and 127 drivers without valid driving licences. Three people were arrested for offences including reckless and negligent driving, fraud and being in the country illegally.
Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport Kedibone Diale-Tlabela said public transport operators who disregard traffic and regulatory laws would continue to face strict enforcement action.
She said the department remains committed to improving road safety and ensuring compliance across the province.
Diale-Tlabela said the provincial government would continue removing unsafe vehicles from the roads and taking action against motorists and public transport operators who endanger the lives of commuters and other road users.
