Aviation enthusiasts flocked to Rand Airport as the much-anticipated airshow returned after three years, delivering a thrilling programme of aerial displays and entertainment.

The Rand Airport Airshow was a marvel to watch, with aviation enthusiasts from near and far gathering to witness a spectacular showcase of aircraft and aerial displays.

The much-anticipated event returned after a three-year hiatus, drawing crowds from across Gauteng who came to enjoy a day filled with aviation, entertainment and family fun.

While spectators had their eyes firmly fixed on the birds of the sky, there was plenty to keep them entertained on the ground.

Visitors were spoilt for choice with food and drinks from various vendors, while merchandise stalls offered everything from children’s items to clothing and other products for adults.

Car enthusiasts also had something to enjoy, with various vehicle brands displaying their latest offerings and engaging with potential customers.

Aerial action and ground displays

Throughout the day, photographers kept their fingers on the shutter buttons, focusing their lenses on the action overhead and capturing moments that would be preserved as lasting memories.

The event offered something for almost everyone, with live commentary keeping spectators informed and entertained as the various aircraft prepared for their displays.

Emergency vehicles kicked off the runway parade before skydivers took to the skies for their airborne displays, setting the tone for the action-packed day.

The airshow then moved into full swing with the Skydivers and An-2 display team, comprising Heystek Pretorius and Bryan Pather, taking to the skies.

They were followed by the Puma Flying Lions Aerobatic Team, which delivered one of the highlights of the day.

The Flying Lions team comprised Ellis Levin, Arnie Meneghelli, Deon Raath and Nigel Hopkins. The team also returned to the skies later in the day as the second closing act, giving spectators another opportunity to witness their impressive aerobatic performance.

Among the aircraft that took to the skies were the Bell 222, flown by Andre Coetzee, the Master Power Extra aircraft, Sling aircraft and the Magni Gyrocopter M22.

With the combination of aerial displays, aviation enthusiasts, food, entertainment, cars and family activities, the Rand Airport Airshow offered visitors a full day of excitement both in the skies and on the ground.
