St Andrew’s Spring Expo brings community together
Attendees explore about 70 stalls, catch up, play games and donate blood, among other activities, at this year’s St Andrew’s School for Girls Spring Expo.
About 70 stalls, music, a Koodoo PlayStation, and indoor rowing were on offer for the hundreds of people who attended the St Andrew’s School for Girls Spring Expo on September 19.
School marketer Brandon Townsend said the objective of the event was to bring the community together.
With all the stalls, indoor rowing and other activities, he acknowledged that it was a good community initiative that the school hosts every year during spring.

Townsend added that the market offers many handmade, artisanal items that are highly sought after.
Townsend said most stall owners are small, local business owners and the school enjoys being able to offer this opportunity as a way to support its community.
There was also an Old Girls’ Lounge, where alumnae and the community were encouraged to come together to support the fundraising efforts for the Old Girls’ bursary.
A sports and refreshment garden, run by the Rowing Committee, added to the vibrant atmosphere and gave visitors a chance to sit back and enjoy the day.

A preschool area offered activities such as colouring and sand art for young children. For tweens and teens, a Koodoo trailer with a PlayStation was available. A tea garden sold cakes and other sweet treats.
Townsend said the event accommodated all age groups while supporting charitable organisations such as Edenvale Ferals and the South African National Blood Service.
“Staff, parents, and students all get involved on the day, performing several duties to ensure the success of the event.
“These range from manning stalls, ticketing, cooking, parking, and even entertaining. Our music girls performed in the tea garden; uBambiswano students sold their artwork; Grade 11 accounting girls ran a slush and popcorn stall as part of their portfolio work; Photography Club girls captured the event; and the swimming team manned the cooldrink stalls, to name but a few,” head of marketing and admission Caterina Cacchioni said.

Townsend said the weather turned out well despite a poor forecast at the start of the week, adding that the community came out to enjoy the day.
