Resident thankful for speed bump

After being hijacked once and held up in an armed robbery in our old home, I refuse to pull into my driveway while waiting for my gate to open as it is a known security risk.

EDITOR – In response to the letter from Mr Michael Craig questioning the installation of speed bumps in Vincent Avenue, Edenglen and High Street, Eastleigh, published in the June 18 edition.

I wish to express my heartfelt appreciation for the installation of the speed bump in Vincent Avenue.

As a resident of Vincent Avenue, what should be a relatively quiet street as pointed out by Mr Craig is anything but; we constantly have traffic racing down Vincent using it as a by-pass to avoid the traffic calming measures on Erasmus Avenue.

I was even harassed one afternoon coming home from work by a courier delivery vehicle as I was obviously interfering with his time schedule while I was waiting to turn into my driveway.

After being hijacked once and held up in an armed robbery in our old home, I refuse to pull into my driveway while waiting for my gate to open as it is a known security risk.

In December last year, my precious cat was knocked over and killed right in front of our house and we could clearly see that the vehicle was speeding.

There are always children and adults cycling along Vincent, parents pushing their babies in prams, people jogging and people walking their dogs.

For the safety of the families and pets that use Vincent Avenue, the speed bump is a welcome relief.

Since the installation of the bump, traffic has drastically reduced and people are driving at more decent speeds.

Our street can once again become the quiet street that it should be.

There is no price one can pay for peace of mind.

So, with the utmost of gratitude, I would like to thank the roads department and Councillor Heather Hart for their assistance in making our neighbourhood a safer place to live in.
