Edenvale Bowling Club grows from strength to strength

Edenvale Bowling Club Excelled when it won the Bowling Club Fives competition for the second year in a row.

Held at the start of October, the annual competition is hosted by Harlequins in Pretoria.

Club committee member Raymond Pieters said Gerald May, Mathew Phiri, Brandon Wysoke, Greg Burns and Gordon May did the club proud when they won this year’s contest.

Outgoing president of Edenvale Bowling Club Gerald May ushered in the new bowling season on October 15 by rolling the first bowl at the club.

On October 14 the club’s new president, Gordon May, thanked the previous committee for their dedication and contribution to keeping the club going.

“He thanked the previous committee for turning it into the finest club in Ekurhuleni,” said Pieters.

A day later outgoing president Gerald May ushered in the new bowling season by rolling the first bowl at the club.
Gerald stepped down after six terms as president.

“He saw the club through the very difficult Covid years and believes Edenvale Bowling Club will grow and become an even stronger club,” said Pieters.

Soon after this the club’s first competition, the men’s and ladies’ fours took place on October 16.

Gordon May, Richard Lowe, Andrew Cockerell and Keith Hollingsworth excelled.

Pieters said the ladies will compete at a later date.

Looking to the future Pieters said the season appears to be a busy one for the club and the district.

He said already there are Twilight Bowls, Perch Pairs and Wednesday Leagues played at the club.

On October 29 the district also started its league.

Pieters said Edenvale Bowling Club is always on the hunt for new members.

It offers Saturday morning coaching for new bowlers provided by the club’s highly competent coaching staff.
