Seven5 had a strong start with a man-of-the-match performance from E Van Niekerk, who secured 64 runs from 24 balls.

The latest instalment of the Bedfordview Last Man Stands (LMS) tournament took place last weekend when Seven5 took on the Fool Tossers at Elandspark School on Sunday, January 26.

The Fool Tossers batted first on a slightly damp pitch. Fool Tossers’ captain, Mitch Rodrigues, was the best performing batsman, securing 38 runs not out from 30 balls. The Fool Tossers scored a total of 120 runs for the loss of seven wickets after 20 overs.

Seven5 had a strong start with a man-of-the-match performance from E Van Niekerk, who secured 64 runs from 24 balls. The Seven5s scored 123 runs for the loss of five wickets after 15.0 overs, winning the match by three wickets.

Mitch Rodrigues, the captain of Fool Tossers said, “We didn’t do too badly, but perhaps we could have batted a little bit better. The opening bowlers did not get the line we were looking for, so in the end we fell short and lost the game. Overall, I was happy with the team’s performance. We take our cricket seriously and we enjoy the game. There is a fighting spirit in the team as well, so I know we will fight back. I am looking forward to the next game.”

Marinus Vollenbroek, the captain of Seven5 said, “We decided at the beginning that we would bowl first because the pitch was slightly wet. That decision paid off at the end of the day. We bowled our opponents out for 120 and we reached that score in the 15th over, thanks to some good batting for our opening batsmen. Van Niekerk made 64 off 24 and thanks to a good bowling session, we managed to secure the win.”
