Karate family takes on championships

Sensei Michael was the assistant coach for the national team while Renstia and Marinda received their Protea Colours.

Edenvale residents, Sensei Michael Roetz, Sixth Dan and his two daughters, Renstia and Marinda were recently selected by Karate South Africa to represent the country in the Zone 6 Sub Saharan All-Style Karate Championships.

Sensei Michael was the assistant coach for the national team while Renstia and Marinda received their Protea Colours.

This was the second time Renstia received her Protea Colours while for Marinda it was the fourth consecutive time she had been selected for the national side.

The championships were held in Lusaka, Zambia and included contestants from South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Marinda won her division and brought back gold in the 11-to-12-year-old Kumite division.

Renstia received second place in the 14-to-15-year-old Kumite division.
