Toni Jardine shines in Rysmierbult

The season officially kicked off for Edenvale resident Toni Jardine at the first round of the Totpak National Off Road Championship held at Rysmierbult recently.

The first race of the year is always the time to gauge if a rider has done enough in the off season to prepare for the year ahead.

With Toni’s off season injury, she was unsure where she would stand going into the first round, although she felt confident.

She returned to racing the full distance this year in the highly competitive OR3 class.

Toni finished the time trial with a good position of 15th in her class and 41st overall.

It was a solid start to the day’s racing.

The dust was minimal and Toni had a good run with the two laps on the B Loop and two laps on the A Loop.

Toni experienced problems with her wrist after a small crash earlier in the day and her knee started to ache as she struggled through the fifth and final lap.

“You cannot believe what a difference having to ride the extra lap makes,” said Toni.

“It is a really good test of fitness,” she added.

She put in a solid day of racing and achieved her best finish ever of 13th in her class and 30th overall. Toni then headed to the first round of the Monster Energy South African National Motocross Championship in Harrismith.
