Edenvale’s Jaemi paddles to second place
The Gauteng Canoe Union school league races are monthly events where points are awarded to all finishers on a sliding scale.
Edenvale resident, Jaemi Wellish from St Catherine School and a member of the youth paddlers based at the Victoria Lake Canoe Club, recently paddled hard to earn a silver medal and points for her school in the Gauteng Canoe Union school league winter race on the Vaal River.
The Gauteng Canoe Union school league races are monthly events, where points are awarded to all finishers on a sliding scale.
The points accumulate throughout the year so that consistency and regular participation is rewarded.
The races are age-appropriate distances in the marathon season of the winter months, with the U/8 paddlers finishing three kilometres while the U/10 and U/12 participants completed six kilometres.
Older paddlers compete over longer distances, up to 12 kilometres, for the U/18 paddlers.
