First place for Edenvale canoeist
Along the route, the pair faced major rapids, a number of obstacles and winding corners.
Edenvale resident and canoeist Helen Jansen van Vuuren and coach Richard Cele took first place in the mixed doubles category when they competed in the Klip to Vaal River Race.
The race, held on November 11, saw the Afrikaanse Hoërskool Germiston learner and her coach complete 28km between Danie Maclean Park and Watuni Canoe Club.

Along the route, the pair faced major rapids, a number of obstacles and winding corners.
Jansen van Vuuren and Cele completed the race in two hours 13 minutes and placed second overall.
Throughout the canoeing season, Jansen van Vuuren has made a number of achievements in the Gauteng Canoe Union School League’s monthly races.
At the annual prize-giving, held in Benoni on November 4, she took first place in the u-14 girls’ category with 162 points.

Additionally, she won Top Paddler of the Year in the K1 category and the award for most improved female for the year.
