Baseball coaches get MLB training

The three-day programme was enjoyed by the 29 coaches in attendance.

Edenvale baseball coaches recently attended a Coaches Development Programme at the Red Sox Baseball grounds.

Coaches from across Gauteng were instructed by Chad Gravenhorst from Major League Baseball (MLB), and he was assisted by Kevin Johnson.

The Giants and Imps Baseball Club coaches who attended were head coach Dean McKinon, Keith Teixeira, Craig White, Andrew Niedermeyer, Conrad Grobler, Matthew Teixeira, Keagan Niedermeyer, Rudi Balfour, Grant Fouche, Cameron van Niekerk, Mitchell van Niekerk and Jaryd Whiterse.

The three-day programme was enjoyed by the 29 coaches in attendance.

The course was broken up into theory and practical sessions.

It covered developing athleticism, typical throwing, pitching injuries, pitching mechanics, hitting fundamentals, drills, and formulating practice plans.

Various coaches said the programme was very informative and made a lot of sense.

Helga Teixeira, secretary of Gauteng Province Baseball Council, said: “We would like to thank the South African Baseball Union and MLB for providing the opportunity for our coaches to attend this programme, we look forward to more in the future.”
