Tennis club offers up a world of fun this spring

Spring has arrived, and with it, tennis fun with a range of social and emotional benefits.

With spring knocking, family fun and outdoor activities are bound to be the order of the day.

It is for this reason that KenRho Park Tennis Club (KPTC) in Kensington is encouraging the community to put their tennis trainers on, bring their best tennis swing and help usher in the new season.

The club’s chairperson, Serge Fookune, said the family experience on the offing at the club will go down well with every member of a family.

“Why play tennis, you ask? Simple. It means one gets to have fun while getting into shape,” remarked Fookune.

He said the sport encompasses a multitude of benefits, which if taken in stride, will culminate into an incredible lifestyle experience.

“There are numerous benefits, but in a nutshell, unlike in gym, you most likely want to get on the court to have fun; the by-product is a healthy lifestyle. Tennis also teaches you a few life lessons.

“If things don’t go your way, it teaches you to learn to accept your shortfalls, but helps you come back better equipped,” explained Fookune.

“It also teaches you humility because arrogance is the product of always thinking that you are at the top until you meet your match. The good news is that after a reality check, you learn to improve yourself and approach life with much more respect for others.”

Adding to the benefits of playing sport, Fookune said living longer, developing team work ethics, improving social skills, reducing stress, increasing brain power and learning to solve problems are others in a range of emotional and social benefits that can be enjoyed.

“It’s time to get yourself and your loved ones on the tennis court and start a new chapter. KPTC hosts free coaching regularly, which is posted on our website. Our coaches have the love and patience of teaching tennis, especially to children, but adults want patience too it seems,” he said.
