The spirit of soccer and friendship at Olympia FC

This is the third year running of the Friendship Cup at Olympia FC.

Olympia FC celebrates its 70th anniversary this year and there was no better way to mark the ocassion than by the Friendship Cup, which took place from September 27 to 29, at the Italian Club.

Committee member for Olympia FC Phillip Matlou said the Friendship Cup was a collaboration between KwaZulu-Natal High Schools Football Association (KZNHSFA) and Olympia FC.

This was the third year running of the Friendship Cup and participants included schools, clubs and academies within age groups from u-14, 15 and 17.

KZNHSFA were the winners in every age group of the Friendship Cup.

The teams were KZNHSFA, Olympia FC, Shumba Academy, Parktown Boys High School, Benoni High School, BCC FC, Rietvlei Soccer School and Wits FC.

The finals were played on September 29 where the u-14 and u-15 winners were KZN.

The u-17 winners were also KZN and second place went to Wits FC.

Wits FC took on Parktown Boys High School in an u-17 match.

Brice Peterson from Wits FC was announced best coach and best team spirit went to Shumba Football Academy.

“The three age groups displayed their soccer skills. It was a great pleasure to host the tournament, with players enjoying every moment,” said Matlou.

Tournament director Stef Crasso from KZNHSFA said he is thankful to all the teams, players, coaches, managers and parents who participated in the cup.

KZNHSFA played against Tembisa’s Shumba Acadamy in an u-15 match.
