Ricky inspires his peers to follow their dreams

"I’m positive minded and eager to reach my goals and dreams."

Grade 11 Jeppe High School for Boys learner Ricky Jesus, who is also known as DJ Nocturnal Rixx, is using his talent to inspire his peers.

Because he comes from a musical family, his father and uncle played a role in his becoming a DJ.

“My dad would DJ at family events and my uncle made me understand the different genres of music. That made my passion for music grow and even though I cannot sing – I wanted to create sound,” said DJ Nocturnal Rixx.

Ricky Jesus is also known as DJ Nocturnal Rixx.

He said his journey as DJ started two years ago when he attended a DJ and business course at Rise Academy of Entrepreneurship.

“When I told my parents about my passion, they were supportive. They helped me find a school and Rise Academy of Entrepreneurship was perfect for me. I learned a lot and I now understand the music industry better,” said DJ Nocturnal Rixx.

He said he wants his music to inspire young people and show them that it is possible to reach your goals even when you are young.

“I’m using my own talent to create a business. Dedication and passion have allowed me to have this business and make it a success at my age. Most importantly, I’m inspiring others to use their talent to make a living for themselves,” explained DJ Nocturnal Rixx.

His love for music comes with sacrifice as he has to ensure that he maintains a balance between school and his DJ work.

“I’m always busy on weekends because I have bookings and that means spending less time with my friends. I also had to sacrifice sport because it requires time. Even though I miss being active in sports, the sacrifice was worth it because I’m doing what I love most,” said DJ Nocturnal Rixx.

“I’m positive minded and am eager to reach my goals and dreams. I understand that the only person who can hinder me is myself. I am building my own brand,” he said.

He plans on studying sound engineering and marketing when he leaves school.

He said five years from now he would love to have his own clothing brand and be a well-known DJ.
