Wow was initiated by Hector Mgiba in 2011 after seeing the talent around the area having no platform to express themselves.

“World of Words poetry sessions are a platform for poets and artists alike to come together and share their work. It’s an intimate world of expression where we can get together and appreciate art,” said Mgiba.

Wow is part of East Jozi, which is a community project aimed at bringing activities in and around the community mainly focusing on art, events and youth development.

“Wow has grown since it started. The community has been supportive which made a difference because artists get to showcase their talent to the community and they spread the word about their work.

“We have people coming from Soweto and Tembisa to support us,” said Mgiba.

The poetry sessions are held at Café 141 in Queens Street.

The first session of this year will be on January 28. This session will feature poets such as Aconite, Rose of Poet, The Neo Zulu, LyriQ and Belita Andre.

There will also be an open mic for anyone who would like to share their work.
