Eminent American pianist to play for JMS

Myer’s latest CD, released on the Steinway & Sons label, has received glowing reviews.

The Johannesburg Musical Society (JMS) and pianist Spencer Myer will acknowledge the 100th anniversary of Claude Debussy’s death on June 9.

Spencer Myer, who is renowned for his poised, alert musicianship, is a favourite in South Africa after winning first prize at the 2004 Unisa International Piano Competition.

He took the gold medal at the 2008 New Orleans International Piano Competition and has a busy and highly-respected international career.

He is in constant demand as a collaborative pianist with stars like cellists Lyn Harrell and Ralph Kirshbaum, as well as with clarinetist David Shifrin and various prestigious ensembles.

He is also artist-teacher of piano and collaborative piano at Boston’s Longy School of Music.

Myer’s latest CD, released on the Steinway & Sons label, has received glowing reviews.

His concert on June 9 for the Johannesburg Musical Society takes place in the Linder Auditorium on the Wits Education Campus, St Andrews Road, Parktown, at 8pm.

Tickets for this concert can be booked at Computicket or bought at the door from the Linder box office which will open on the evening at 7pm.
