Time for walkies

Dog owners and supporters of the SPCA are invited to take part in the Sunset Adventure Dog Walk, at the Boksburg Stadium, on Saturday, November 30.

This event is in aid of SPCA branches on the East Rand and the hope is to raise much needed funds, as well as to collect blankets, leads and collars, and food for animals in need.

“The event promises to be a lovely afternoon and evening out with the family and dogs,” said organiser Alta Gobey.

The walk will start at 4.45pm and participants are encouraged to bring along picnic blankets, chairs and gazebos.

Supporters are encouraged to be at the venue from 4pm.

“There will be two courses of different lengths and activities to ensure that dogs, large and small, can participate and have a fun time,” said Gobey.

“The longer course will require old clothes to be worn by the person walking the dogs, as the format will be an adventure in the form of an interesting, yet fun obstacle course.”

The Sunset Adventure Dog Walk is also an opportunity for the SPCAs to engage with the community, get feedback and to remind the community of the work that they do for animals in need.

If you don’t have a dog, come along anyway, you can support the event by paying your entry fee and walking the route.

The entry fee is R30 per person and R10 per dog.

All participants go into the draw for a prize and there will be a cash prize for the club or organisation that has the most members with dogs in attendance.

All dogs’ vaccinations must be to be up to date and all dogs must be on a lead.

No puppies under three months will be permitted.
