Ekurhuleni dispatches water tankers to Tsakane

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality has dispatched five water tankers to Tsakane after the area regressed from total water restoration to no water in parts of the area.

According to the municipality, this is largely due to a high demand for water.

“The municipality reiterates its call that residents should continue to use water sparingly by refraining from all forms of irrigation, washing of vehicles using hose pipes and filling up of swimming pools,” said metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe.

According to Gadebe, while the water situation in Ekurhuleni has stabilized,  parts of Tsakane and Etwata regressed yesterday (Monday) due to a spike in water usage.

“Etwatwa has since improved from no water to low pressure today,” he said.

“The levels in the reservoirs supplying the two areas are rising gradually, at a satisfactory rate.”

Meanwhile, all other areas that were affected in the past couple of weeks have been fully restored.

They include Bedfordview, Etwatwa, Benoni, Brakpan, Kempton Park, parts of Tembisa, Germiston and Daveyton.

“We will continue to monitor the situation until the last house has water fully restored,” added Gadebe.
