Search for the Boerewors Champion starts
The annual Championship Boerewors Competition will commence with the Champion Round stages on Saturdays, July 11 and 18.
The six rounds will see more than 650 recipes braaied nationwide, to find South Africa’s Top 18 Boerewors recipes. These recipes will contend for the honour of being crowned the Championship Boerewors winner for 2015, and the grand prize of a Hilux 2.7 Double Cab Raised Body L45.
The Gauteng Champion Round will be held in Centurion, on July 11 and 18, at the Shoprite Checkers Office Park.
The public are invited to join in the Champion Round, to show their support. Contestant registration starts at 7am and the round winners will be announced at around 2pm.
Besides the sizzling excitement of the competition, the day will be hosted by South African actor David Vlok, with fun activities for the whole family, like face-painting, a jumping castle and entertainment.
This year has seen the format of the competition change and, for the first time ever, the public will vote for the winner during a Top 3 showdown.
The South African Chefs Association (SACA), a recognised authority on food in South Africa, takes charge of the judging processes and ensures that all entries adhere to the guidelines for making truly traditional boerewors.
Shoprite and Checkers are proud of SA’s boerewors tradition and celebrate it every year by hosting the Championship Boerewors competition.

The annual Championship Boerewors competition plays a pivotal role in helping the group to achieve this aim.
