Misty conditions lead to 8-car pile-up on Main Reef Road
Yesterday’s (Wednesday) misty conditions in Brakpan is apparently a factor which led to an accident along Main Reef Road, at 6am, where eight vehicles were involved in a collision.

Fortunately, only minor injuries were sustained by seven people.
Since the accident happened at the beginning of the morning peak hour traffic, serious traffic snarl-ups occurred as Prince George Street carries high volumes of traffic onto Main Reef Road, which connects to both the R23 highway and the N12 freeway.
Emergency services attended to the scene and assisted in redirecting traffic on to alternative routes.
The traffic congestion began to ease up when the mist lifted and the road reopened at around 8am.
“Motorists are urged to be extra cautious during winter months as the misty conditions, mostly in the mornings, will be with us until the winter season ends,” said Wilfred Kgasago, spokesperson for the EMPD.
“Motorists are advised to adjust their speeds according to the conditions, switch on their headlights, both rear and front fog lights, as well as ensuring that they adhere to the three second following distance rule as visibility is greatly affected,” added Kgasago.
