Youth can say their say
Residents, especially younger people, are invited to join a newly formed Brakpan Youth Forum (BYF).

The organisation was founded by Moeketsi Mokoena and Sibongile Mpongose, and is aimed at giving the youth an opportunity to express their ideas, opinions and needs to decision makers and the community as a whole.
“This forum is also a communication medium for the residents of Brakpan in terms of addressing ways to ensure that the needs and priorities of all those residing in Brakpan are catered for,” Moekoena said.
Examples of planned and initiated campaigns are:
- To find the means to get rid of the “plastic” squatter camp.
- To ensure safety and security (ensure police visibility throughout the community).
- Allow the public to utilise sports facilities.
- To establish more schools in order to overcome overpopulation in current schools.
- To create job opportunities and activities for the youth.
- To create a drug-free community and address prostitution and violence.
- To utilise the old Brakpan Primary School building to establish a home for the homeless.
People of all ages are welcome to attend the meetings, every Thursday at 4.30pm, at the Charl Baard Stadium.
