The South African Weather Service has warned residents to be on high alert as thunderstorms and heavy rain are predicted for the remainder of the day, leading into tomorrow.

The SA Weather Service has warned of severe thunderstorms and heavy rains predicted in parts of the province today, continuing until tomorrow.

The service has predicted that the wet weather will last the rest of the week and into the weekend, with temperatures staying in the low 20s.

Motorists are reminded to take the necessary precautions when travelling.

They are encouraged to reduce speed and increase their following distance and headlights should be kept on at all times to increase visibility.

Residents should also ensure that they shelter their pets.
