Thousands do online applications with GDE
Every step of the application process is confirmed via SMS for security and verification purposes.

After online applications opened on Thursday (June 15), over 300 000 Grade One and Grade Eight online applications were processed.
A Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) said that by Monday, the GDE online admissions system had recorded 131 294 applications for Grade One and 169 613 for Grade Eight, bringing the total of applications made to 300 907.
The application period for Grades One and Eight will close on July 14 at midnight. To apply, parents and guardians must visit www.gdeadmissions.gov.za. They must register to create unique login credentials and proceed with the application process.
Department spokesperson Steve Mabona said applicants must provide one reliable and correct cellphone number when registering to receive SMS notifications and updates regarding their application.
“Every step of the application process is confirmed via SMS for security and verification purposes. Parents must ensure they enter the correct cellphone number when registering to apply,” he said.
If one forgets their passwords after completing their application, they must click on the ‘Forgot Password’ option on the login page and follow the prompts and once-off pin sent to their cellphone to regain access.
Documents required when applying:
1. Parent and child ID or passport
2. Refugee permit

Parents/guardians must upload the required documents online OR submit them in person at the school(s) selected in the application.
Parents/guardians have seven days from applying to submit the documents. All schools will view the uploaded documents.
Parents who handed the application documents in at schools must ensure they are also submitted to all the schools that they applied for. Applicants will receive an SMS once the schools capture them.
Parents and guardians must ensure the information on the documents matches what they enter into the system when applying. Pay attention to the document format and size required when uploading online, such as PDF 10MB file size max.
Proof of home address is a vital document. A child’s placement is confirmed only if the school can verify the home address, which should correlate with the application details entered into the system. Applicants must not submit fraudulent documents because the schools can verify them.
These documents are acceptable proof of home address:
Homeowners:
• Municipal account not older than three months in the name of the applicant parent bearing the full residential address.
Tenants/renters:
2. Certified copies of these documents:
• Proof of rent payment/rental payment slip with full physical residential address no older than three months.
• Statement of any account in the name of the applicant parent bearing the full physical residential address.
Failure to submit proof of residence and falsified proof of residence and work addresses will result in the applicant forfeiting the right to preferential placement at a school.
