Youngster racing to the top

Marnitz is working hard to emulate his favourite racer Brad Binder.

Marnitz Otten will be plotting for a big 2024 after going through last year’s season in the South African Short Circuit Series unbeaten.

The seven-year-old will be moving from the PW50 class to the TTR50 category. His last race in the former class was at Vereeniging Kart Club.

He was not happy with his start there, however. His first heat was a nervous one.

“I did not have the best start. I dropped to position two (in the first heat). But fought my way back and managed to take the lead on lap three,” he said.

He showed his dominance in the second heat.

“I was focused from the start. Lap two I managed to break the track record from 43.13 to 42.69 seconds, taking the checkered flag.”

The third heat was the cherry on top.

“I managed a good start, maintaining my pace right through to the end, taking first place,” said the youngster.

The Laerskool Dalview learner is working hard to emulate his favourite racer Brad Binder.

“He wakes me up on a weekend asking when we can go and practice. I must say for his age he’s very committed,” his father Willem previously told the Herald.

In 2024, young Marnitz will be looking to build on his progress in a new class.
