Brakpan lad determined to win short circuit racing champs

The youngster's dedication and enthusiasm for racing is obvious.

Marnitz Otten from Brakpan showcased his skills in both the SM50 and SM65 classes during the second round of the SA Short Circuit Series at Formula K in Benoni on March 8.

The eight-year-old’s participation in these two demanding categories highlighted his versatility and competitive spirit.

Marnitz (#550) demonstrated impressive speed during the qualifying session.

Three of the seven racers improved their lap times with every lap. Marnitz improved his lap time by more than a second, securing him pole position on the starting grid.

During the first and second heats, Marnitz maintained a consistent pace, skillfully navigating the technical segments of the track.

He was flying through the technical section in turn one that even the most skilled racers advised him to slow down. Being persistent, however, Marnitz kept his pace and managed to take the checkered flag in both heats.


Marntiz Otten (8) recently earned podium finishes in the SM50 and SM65 classes at the second round of the SA Short Circuit Series.

In the third heat, Marnitz again took the early lead, but his competitor managed a pass, and Marnitz finished in second place with only a fraction of a second separating him from the leader.

Marnitz finished the day with his first podium place in the SM50 class. He is determined to win the championship this year on his SM50 bike.

In the SM65 class qualifying round, Marnitz was eager to start the day. The SM65 was the second class to hit the track on race day. Marnitz took to the track and managed to secure second position on the starting grid, showcasing his determination and skill early on.

In the first heat, Marnitz maintained a strong pace throughout the race. His strategic manoeuvres and quick reflexes allowed him to finish in second place.

With even more determination during the second heat, the youngster improved his pace by almost a second, closely tailing the leader and setting the stage for a competitive series of races.

In the final heat, Marnitz showed remarkable resilience, improving his performance from the first heat. He took advantage of the lessons learned, executing precise turns and accelerating effectively on the straights.

This effort earned him the lead in the race until a minor setback during the third lap when he pushed too hard and fell.

Marnitz fought back fiercely, finishing in second place, demonstrating his growing confidence and adaptability.

The local lad concluded the day with a commendable performance in the SM65 class, securing a spot on the podium and further fueling his ambition to excel in future races.

His consistency and skill in both classes highlight his potential as a formidable contender in the racing series.
