Suspected vehicle theft syndicate member nabbed after high-speed chase
One suspect linked to multiple vehicle theft cases was arrested on June 10 following a joint operation involving Springs SAPS and several private security companies. A stolen vehicle and house burglary tools were recovered.
Springs SAPS arrested a suspect believed to be part of a vehicle theft syndicate on June 10. This was done with the assistance of the Benoni Flying Squad and local security firms including Secure Tech, Graphite, A-Tac, CP Security, Menlo CIT, and C Track.
According to Sergeant Themba Tshabalala, spokesperson for Springs SAPS, the operation followed urgent information regarding a vehicle suspected of involvement in recent car thefts near the Far East Rand Hospital.
Members of Secure Tech located the vehicle and waited for backup. Before assistance arrived, the suspect attempted to flee, prompting a high-speed chase to Springs, where the vehicle was eventually stopped and one suspect apprehended.
“Upon inspection, the vehicle was confirmed to have been stolen, as per a Springs case number. Officers also recovered a large quantity of house burglary tools inside the vehicle,” Tshabalala said.
The suspect has been linked to over five vehicle theft cases in the area. The stolen vehicle was impounded for safekeeping, and the suspect remains in custody.
“This is yet another excellent example of what can be achieved through teamwork and effective communication between stakeholders,” Tshabalala concluded.
