Village of Hope launches back-to-school drive for children in need
A new year brings new hope as Village of Hope steps up efforts to support children with school essentials.
Village of Hope NPO started the new year on a busy note, continuing its mission to support children in need.
The organisation’s first outreach programme of the year took place on January 6 in the Mgongo informal settlement.
According to the NPO’s founder Tumie Masolane, the visit was both meaningful and emotional.
“We did not realise how much we had missed these children, and they were very happy to see the team again after the Christmas party,” said Masolane.
“As we fed them, we also realised how much we mean to them.”
As previously reported by the Brakpan Herald, the NPO partnered with Brakpan SAPS to host a Christmas party for underprivileged children at the Brakpan Stadium on December 10.
The event aimed to give children from informal settlements and other underprivileged communities a festive feeling of love and care.
As the school year begins, Village of Hope has shifted its focus to assist children with school shoes.
The non-profit organisation has launched a back-to-school drive aimed at ensuring learners are properly equipped when they return to school.
“We are running a back-to-school drive to make sure the children look presentable as they go back to school,” Masolane said.
“We are also calling on individuals, companies and organisations to invest in the education of these young lives.”
Masolane expressed her gratitude to Pick n Pay Mall@Carnival for consistently sponsoring food for the organisation’s outreach programmes, as well as to the Mgongo CPF for its ongoing support.
She also thanked Village of Hope team members Ntsoaki Sindane and Tlhokomelo Masolane for always making themselves available to serve the community.
On January 14, Village of Hope beneficiaries in Mgongo celebrated the birthday of Pretty Sibisi, who makes it a tradition to help others on her birthday.
This year, she chose Village of Hope as her beneficiary.
“Our beneficiaries were very happy and received hot dogs, chips and juice,” said Masolane.
“We are grateful to Pretty for remembering us, and we wish her all the best in 2026.”
She once again thanked the Mgongo CPF and Tlhokomelo for support during the celebration.
“The back-to-school campaign is still ongoing, and any form of assistance is welcome,” Masolane added.
