In the spotlight

Getting to know Eve Davis.

Eve Davis (62) is the Herald’s advertising sales manager.

Eve joined the Herald team at the end of last year, after many years working as a sales consultant at our sister newspaper, the Benoni City Times.

The Dalpark resident has lived in Brakpan for over 25 years and has been married to Richard (66) for 44 years. The couple has two sons, Donovan (43) and Steven (35), and three granddaughters, Jayde (22), Kiera (11) and Ashley (10).

• For how long have you worked in advertising?

Around 29 years.

• For how long have you worked at Caxton?

I started working at Caxton in 1984, in the front office.

• How has your experience with the Herald been so far?

It was a little scary moving from the City Times, but I’m so happy I did as the staff at the Herald have been so supportive and have made me feel right at home.

• What sparked your interest in advertising?

Karen Geurtse, my manager, made that decision for me.

She moved me out of the office and onto the road as a sales consultant, and I’ve never looked back.

• What do you like most about your job?

I love meeting new people.

• If you weren’t a sales consultant, what would you be?

An artist, I love sketching .

• We know you like snakes and spiders, why?

When my sons were growing up we started keeping snakes and my interest in them has grown from there.

They are fascinating to watch and I enjoy handling them.

I do not like all spiders, they scare me and that is why I decided to face my fear and I went to a pet shop so I could hold a tarantula.

It did not cure my fear of spiders, but I discovered that I love tarantulas.

• Do you have any other hobbies or special interests?

I enjoy gardening , reading autobiographies and solving crossword puzzles.

• If you could keep only five possessions, what would they be?

A group photograph of my family, my wedding ring, my mobile, sketch pad and pencil.

• If you had the power to solve one and only one problem in the world, what would it be and why?

Tougher punishment for all forms of abuse.

• Where is your dream holiday destination?

Zanzibar.

• What is your favourite thing about Brakpan?

The people.

• Where do you see the town in 10 years?

Major developments along the R23 (Heidelberg Road) have placed Brakpan firmly on the map.

This area is a fast growing business and property hub, and it can only go from strength to strength.
