Classic cars and aero engine impress visitors at Just Wheels Open Day

A rare Rolls-Royce Griffon V12 aero engine drew crowds at the Just Wheels Vehicle and Tractor Open Day, where visitors also enjoyed a display of classic cars, street rods, trucks and family friendly entertainment.

Trucks, street rods and engines were the centre of attraction at the Just Wheels Vehicle and Tractor Club Open Day, held at the clubhouse on Sunday.

Visitors were treated to a large display of different engines, while an impressive collection of cars from various eras and in all shapes and sizes also caught the eye.

At the centre of the attraction was a Rolls-Royce Griffon 37-litre, 60-degree V12 aero engine.

The powerful engine, which burns about four litres of fuel per minute while idling, was started to the delight of a large crowd.

The owner of the unique engine, Rodney Burnett, was one of two recipients of special awards presented by the Just Wheels Club at its monthly open day.

The other award went to Peter Jackson from Kempton Park, whose 1933 Ford Coupe Street Rod was on display.

In addition to the impressive display of cars and engines, visitors enjoyed other attractions, including a flea market, food stalls and pony rides.

The next open day, which will feature Subarus in the spotlight, will be held on June 28 at the clubhouse, situated at 169 Kitzinger Avenue in Dalview, from 09:00.

Entrance is free and visitors are encouraged to bring donations of pet food in aid of the Brakpan SPCA.
