Would-be hijacker chased off by dog
The suspected hijacking attempt was unsuccessful thanks to the victim's loyal companion.
Man’s best friend proved to be a true hero after a dog came to the rescue of its owner and thwarted a suspected hijacking attempt at an address along Hamilton Avenue on the evening of June 25.
According to information received from Brakpan police, the victim had returned home at about 20:30 and was opening the gate when he noticed a vehicle pull up behind his father’s car, the make and model of which was not disclosed.
A man exited the vehicle and ran towards him.
The victim fled into the yard and called his dog. The dog charged at the man and attacked him.
During the struggle, the would-be hijacker attempted to cock his firearm but was unable to do so because of the dog’s attack.
The man dropped an unidentified item before fleeing the scene without firing any shots. A case of attempted hijacking is under investigation by Brakpan SAPS.
