EVERY year the South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement (SAASTA) runs a science-related national schools debate competition. Each team consists of five learners. This year’s first round was a researched debate on hydrogen fuel. Thereafter, ten schools were selected to take part in the Gauteng finals and had to research the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) telescope which has been erected in the Karoo. The Mondeor High team won a trophy as second runners-up in the provincial competition for 2017.
The Mondeor High Senior A chess team came first in the Johannesburg North West Chess League B Section. The team won a total of 115 individual games.
Mondeor High is also proud that a large number of its learners were selected to take part in the Prestige Athletics compared to previous times.
Nthokozo Zungu represents the school in tennis and was invited to be part of the International Club of South Africa in Benoni and competed against representatives from Botswana, Zimbabwe and a South African B team. This was a qualifying event for the IC Junior teams in Tokyo in May 2018. She also took part in the African Junior Championships from March to April earlier this year and in the African Junior Tennis Circuit Girls u-16 in Tunisia from June to July this year.
