Meet The Blues – inside the St John’s College rugby team

St John's College explains the team's identity and looks back on their previous success with the Easter Rugby festival ahead.

St John’s College will again host the St John’s Easter Rugby Festival in April and the community can expect an unstoppable blue wave.

Caxton Local Media recently reached out to St John’s where they highlighted their team’s identity, their greatest achievements and the meaning behind the top schools’ emblems and what they represent.

The unstoppable blue wave surges forward as St John’s College prepares to host another thrilling Easter Rugby Festival this April.

St John’s head of marketing and communications, Jacqui Deeks, said the team’s identity is based on fast-paced rugby, focused on high skill level and execution.
She confirmed that their team is referred to as The Blues due to the colours of their match day jersey.

Pride in every play — St John’s players embody the spirit, identity, and legacy behind the emblem they wear.

“We have a strong history of playing a running brand of rugby. Since their head coach Katleho Lynch joined, we have focused on a well-balanced game, ensuring that we have a strong defence and have our kicking principles in place,” she explained.

“The Blues have had some good and outing results at the festival, achieving an unbeaten run in 2019, and previously winning two out of three in 2023 and 2024, winning one, drawing one and losing one, playing a highly skilled game against Kingswood College,” she said.

Focused, fierce, and fast — the St John’s rugby squad charges into action, ready to make their mark at this year’s Easter Festival.
