Green Business monthly meeting
The topic is ‘Realities and Pitfalls of Procurement and Planning’ and will focus on global procurement and logistics, including such aspects as safety, quality assurance, engineering and applicable law in the country of the project.
THE Green Business Platform will be hosting its monthly meeting on Friday, May 6 and welcomes guest speaker Ian Barry, a retired procurement manager.
The topic is ‘Realities and Pitfalls of Procurement and Planning’ and will focus on global procurement and logistics, including such aspects as safety, quality assurance, engineering and applicable law in the country of the project.
Barry worked as a procurement manager for 50 years for numerous major project houses and some of the largest engineering firms around the world. He has worked on multi-billion-Dollar projects and paid studies in much of Africa, including South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, Lesotho, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, DRC, Ethiopia, Eritrea and Mali. His work also took him to Saudi Arabia, Russia, Venezuela and Canada.
He will be drawing on his experience of placing and managing multi-million-Dollar orders, managing major shipping contracts and transport logistics involving thousands of shipping containers of equipment, air freight financial, banking and legal experiences and managing security and safety of workers in battle-torn countries.
The meeting will be held at the Rietvlei Zoo Farm on 101 Swartkoppies Road at 08:00 for 08:30. R50 will be payable at the entrance and includes coffee or tea and a muffin.
