Twelve injured in taxi collision in Midrand

It is believed that the taxi had apparently skipped the red traffic light.

Twelve people were injured this morning when a taxi rear-ended an SUV on the R55 in Midrand.

ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene and found the SUV in the middle of the road. The taxi had come to a stop roughly 150m away in a storm drain.

Several occupants from the taxi were found seated on the embankment, while two others were found walking around on the scene. Paramedics immediately assessed the patients and found that 12 had sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate. Fortunately, no serious or fatal injuries were reported on the scene.

The patients were treated for their injuries and were thereafter transported to various hospitals in the area for further treatment.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
