In a proactive move to address the spike in the number of driveway hijackings in the Johannesburg South area, Mondeor CPF chairperson Mike Fontes arranged a joint special operation on the evening of September 4, with Fidelity ADT and local members of SAPS.
Three roadblocks were set up in the suburbs Liefde and Vrede and Mulbarton between 6.30pm and 8pm to check for illegal weapons, drugs and people driving under the influence of alcohol.
“No arrest were made and we are happy that people are complying with the rules especially on the roads,” said Linda Goodenough, who is the community development manager for Fidelity ADT.
She said these roadblocks are highly effective to ensure the safety and well-being of all the road users and community members.
“Crime is a significant threat to our safety, not only the reckless and lawless driving motorists, but also when vehicles are used to committ crimes.
“We serve closely with several neighbourhood watches and community organisations across the country. When the public work hand-in-hand with their local security companies and the police, there is always a positive difference,” said Goodenough.
