A male suspect has been arrested in Forrest Hill for the murder of his girlfriend on February 2.
Capt Lorraine van Emmerik, spokesperson for Booysens Police Station, said, “On February 2 at 18:00, members from Booysens SAPS were called to a suicide that had taken place in Forest Hill.
“When the members arrived on scene, they were met by a man who identified himself as the boyfriend of the deceased. He took officers into a room where the members saw a female laying on the ground. It looked as if the deceased had hung herself and the boyfriend had found her and cut the rope before he called the police.
“An inquest docket was opened. As with all unnatural deaths, the deceased is taken to the mortuary and a post-mortem is done.”
After the post-mortem, members for the Serious and Violent Crime Unit at the Booysen Police Station were informed by the mortuary that the deceased was strangled and did not hang herself, as was first thought.
The suspect was arrested by the members of the Serious and Violent Crime Unit on February 4.
The suspect is in custody and the docket has been remanded for investigation.
