Deokaran murder case postponed to April

The six accused remain in custody.

The six accused of the murder of Babita Deokaran briefly appeared in the Johannesburg Central Magistrate’s Court on February 22.

They stand accused of the murder of the alleged whistleblower who was fatally shot outside of her Winchester Hills home on August 23, 2021.

They are also accused of the attempted murder of Deokaran’s domestic worker, who was in the car with her at the time of the shooting.

Phakamani Hadebe, Zitha Radebe, Phinda Ndlovu, Sanele Mbhele, Siphiwe Mazibuko and Siphakanyiswa Dladla were denied bail on December 20 last year by sitting magistrate Simon Sibanyoni.

He said the accused failed to show compelling and exceptional circumstances that warrant their release on bail.
The matter has been postponed to April 12 for further proceedings to take place. The accused remain in custody.
