JMPD nabs 203 motorists for driving under the influence

JMPDs enforcement actions have resulted in the arrest of 203 motorists for drunk driving in just one week.

JMPD officers made significant inroads by apprehending 203 motorists for driving under the influence, between March 18 and 25.

This proactive enforcement action underscores the JMPD’s commitment to safeguarding road users and eliminating the risks associated with impaired driving.

According to the spokesperson of JMPD, Xolani Fihla, the recent crackdown on drunk driving serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

“The JMPD’s resolute stance against this reckless behaviour is aimed at protecting all road users and fostering a culture of responsible driving.

“By actively enforcing laws against drunk driving, we are sending a clear message that such behaviour will not be tolerated, and those who choose to endanger themselves and others will face legal repercussions.

“Driving under the influence poses a serious threat to public safety, leading to a higher risk of accidents, injuries, and fatalities on the roads. The legal penalties for drunk driving are severe and can result in fines, licence suspension, criminal charges, and even imprisonment.

“Beyond the legal ramifications, the emotional and physical toll of a drunk driving incident can be devastating for all parties involved,” said Fihla.
