Mulbarton restaurant murder case gets postponed again

Booysens Magistrate warns of dragging case as defense cites attorney’s illness; trial postponed to February 2026.

Daniel Rowland, accused of murder and possession of drugs following a 2021 shooting at Il Camino Restaurant in Mulbarton, made his latest appearance at the Booysens Magistrate’s Court on September 29.

At the previous court appearance, Rowland’s attorneys, Mohammed Mayet and Christo Meiring, were not present. Magistrate Hasina Habib threatened to report the case to the Judge President as a delayed case.

Although Mayet was present at court on September 29, the case was postponed again.

“Advocate Meiring was supposed to be in court to proceed with the 342A inquiry,” said Habib.

Mayet explained Meiring could not be present because he was recovering from surgery. He consulted telephonically with Meiring about dates for the trial and proposed February 2 to 6, 2026.

Habib said the defense had taken no steps to complete this matter. In response, Mayet promised to brief another attorney to assist him should Meiring not be healthy enough to attend court.

Habib postponed the case to February 2 to 6 2026, for the continuation of the trial.

Rowland’s bail was extended.
