Mulbarton kidnapping case is postponed
The accused will remain in custody, and the case will resume with a bail hearing.
A joint operation between Fox Security and the JMPD led to the rescue of 12 boys and the arrest of a foreign national suspected of kidnapping on January 5.
The accused, from Ethiopia, appeared in the Booysens Magistrate’s Court on January 16.
He faces 12 counts of kidnapping and one count of failure to stop a vehicle at the request of a police officer.
The case was postponed on January 12 for the State to be in possession of the SAP 69, which refers to the accused’s criminal history.
However, defense attorney Mr Montana did not have the necessary documents to submit a formal bail application.
Magistrate Vele then stood the case down for the documents to be in order.
The prosecution explained to the court that the documents will be finalised by January 19.
Vele then postponed the case to January 19 for a bail hearing.
