Marist Brothers learner elected as deputy mayor of the Johannesburg Mini Council
City of Johannesburg has introduced a programme to educate learners to be responsible leaders in the future.
Maiya Tichy, a resident of Alberton and a Grade Seven learner at Marist Brothers Linmeyer, was sworn in as the Johannesburg Mini City Council’s deputy major.
The mini city council, an initiative by the City of Johannesburg, provides an environment for the development and education of future leaders in the areas of democracy, responsible government, and the value of civic engagement.
In addition, it also provides organising and sponsoring numerous charitable activities.
She will hold this significant position alongside other council members.
“We wish her and her new colleagues well in this new endeavour,” said Kasha Tichy, Maiya’s mother.
