Warning against water scams: Johannesburg Water cracks down on illegal sales

Reporting channels open for water supply concerns and corruption in Joburg.

Johannesburg Water has issued a customer notice regarding water supplied through alternative means, specifically water tankers.

Joburg Water said water tankers are intended for community consumption and critical institutions such as hospitals and emergency services.

These institutions receive water for free during planned and unplanned disruptions.

Johannesburg Water warns residents against purchasing water from individuals claiming to sell water from tankers. Selling tanker water is considered a criminal offence and can be reported to law enforcement authorities such as the JMPD and SAPS.

Residents are encouraged to report concerns and queries through official channels. They can contact the Johannesburg Water call centre at 011 688 1699.

Anonymous anti-corruption reports can also be made via 0800 00 25 87, SMS 32840, or email anticorruption@tip-off.com

These measures help fight corruption and protect the free water supply during disruptions.
