School hosts NOVA Talks to showcase innovation, leadership

Grade 12 learners inspired change with powerful talks on tradition, identity and Africa’s future.

Nova Pioneer Ormonde recently held its much-anticipated NOVA Talks, a leadership event that marked a milestone for its Grade 12 learners.

This platform serves as a showcase of the learners’ impact projects, an ambitious initiative designed to foster meaningful change across Africa.

Modelled on the popular TED-style format, NOVA Talks invited learners to take to the stage individually or in pairs to deliver compelling presentations centred on this year’s theme.

The discussions covered pressing issues, including self-discovery and the complexities of culture versus religion.
The learners challenged prevailing norms and sparked conversations that resonated with their peers and teachers.

Among the most memorable presentations were:

• Tsebo Tshabalala and Balisa Lushozi’s provocative talk, Tradition is the tyranny of the dead over the living;

• Naledi Motsoeneng and Ashton Wax’s insightful exploration titled Finding U before Us.

The event encouraged critical thinking and honed public speaking and presentation skills, reinforcing Nova Pioneer’s commitment to cultivating confident, solutions-driven leaders prepared to address Africa’s future challenges.

The top speakers received prizes recognising their performances, creativity, clarity and impact.

“NOVA Talks embodies what Nova Pioneer stands for which is developing innovators and leaders who are unafraid to ask tough questions and reimagine solutions for Africa’s future,” said Tahira Nzimande, lead teacher-English at Nova Pioneer Ormonde.

As the school celebrates the achievements of its graduating class, Nova Pioneer remains steadfast in its mission to nurture learners who are self-aware, thoughtful and equipped to lead with character, connection, and capabilities.
