Cycling training camp
Cycling South Africa’s Coaching Commission has extended their scheduled Track Training Camp to the Elite track athletes.

CAPE TOWN – Cycling SA’s Track Commission has placed focus on the Team Pursuit and Team Sprint events, rather than on individual events, to keep in line with the organisation’s 2016/2020 vision. This will allow for the inclusion of a team of cyclists who will then be nominated to ride in the individual events.
On May 31, the Track Commission announced a track cycling squad for 2014 Commonwealth Games, that will be held in Glasgow, Scotland from July 23 to August 3. Now known as the “Shadow Squad”, the Track Commission’s vision is to improve the standard of young talented track cyclists, thereby deepening the talent pool when it comes to team selection.
In line with this vision, the feeder squad has changed a little from the Cycling SA Track Commission’s original announcement on 31 May, and now stands in alphabetical order as follows:
Men’s Track Endurance:
Brandon Christians, Bronwin Adams, Craig Symons, Dirkie Nel, Evan Carstens, James Perry, Jean Spies, Jevandre Pauls, Kellan Gouveris, Marco Abrahams, Morne van Niekerk, Nolan Hoffman, Oupa Maluleke, Reniell Matthysen, Shameeg Salie, Shaun Ward and Theuns van der Bank.
Men’s Track Sprint:
Bernard Esterhuizen, Jeanné Nell, Jean Smith, Kyle Borchjes and Matthew de Freitas.
Women’s Track Endurance:
Maroejska Matthee.
Attendance at the camp, which is being hosted from December 9 -16 , is imperative for continued inclusion in the Commonwealth Games squad. The camp also serves as the basis for National Team selection for the proposed upcoming Tri-Nations in March, with a second camp scheduled from January 11 to 19, 2014.
Any athlete, male or female, has the right to challenge for inclusion into the feeder squad at the upcoming Track Training Camp.
The cost to attend the Track Training Camp, which will be held at the Bellville Velodrome, is R900 per cyclist, payable in advance. This will cover each athlete’s accommodation and food. Elite athletes not staying at the Bellville Velodrome will not be levied a fee, but must confirm their attendance.
