Alberton High MTB team achievements celebrated

Alberton High School (AHS), however, recently took the initiative to recognise their learners for their accomplishments over the 2019/2020 summer season.

The 2020 Spur Anatomic MTB Series was meant to kick off on April 25, but unfortunately the season has been placed on hold due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Alberton High School (AHS), however, recently took the initiative to recognise their learners for their accomplishments over the 2019/2020 summer season.

Mountain biking forms part of these awards as the MTB season ends too late in the year to be incorporated into the AHS Winter Sports Awards. Not wanting their learners to lose out on being recognised for their achievements, AHS took their annual Summer Sports Awards online for the first time on May 12.

The full “ceremony” can be viewed on their Facebook page.

The following cyclists received awards for their achievements in the 2019 MTB season: Owen Lenhoff received a gold certificate, Jody Klibbe received a silver certificate and Ryan Brudon a white certificate. Amogolang Makwetlane, Cameron Barr and Matthew Jamison received scrolls for their achievements. Cael Geartz, Cameron Griddin-Coetzer, Branden De Doulallier and Warren Kriel all received school colours.

Amogelang Makwetlane won the trophy for most-improved cyclist and Cameron Barr was recognised with a trophy for being the most dedicated cyclist. Cael Geartz received the award for the best overall cyclist.

The AHS mountain biking team appreciates the recognition and awards that were presented for their efforts during the 2019 MTB season.

They would like to thank their sponsors, IPOP Bassonia and Suzuki JHB South, for their continued support and sponsoring their cycling shirts over the last three years. They would also like to say a huge thank you to AHS for making this virtual event possible during the lockdown.
