South man keeps on giving
He cycled with Esmero Cycling Club which was doing this race for 11 years in a row.
Imran Abba from Oakdene did it again and added another achievement to his long list.
After running the Comrades Marathon on his treadmill in June, he recently cycled from Johannesburg to Durban with Esmero Cycling Club for the 11th year in a row, for a great cause.
“This race is for a good cause. Before we supported Baby Moses Foundation, but the past three years we are supporting Lil Choices. It is the same charity I ran the Comrades for in June.
“We rode over five days from Johannesburg to Durban. The last stage is normally the MTN Amashova Race from Pietermaritzburg City Hall to Durban’s Moses Mabida Stadium through the Valley of a Thousand Hills.
“This year, because of Covid-19, the race was cancelled. However, we still rode the entire route. Because of Covid-19, I kept the size of the team small to respect the Covid-19 restrictions.
“We were 11 riders with only two support vehicles. We averaged roughly 150km a day, and rode through all types of weather and faced hailstorms, cold and hot days with the maximum temperature of 40ºC. Every cyclist had some personal achievement on this tour,” he said.
Lil Choices is a registered NPO in the West Rand. This organisation gives young women who fall pregnant the opportunity to have their babies and decide on the future of the child, whether it be keeping the baby or putting it up for adoption.
